Stephen Edwin King (born September 21, 1947) is an American author, screenwriter, musician, columnist, actor, film producer and director. Having sold over 350 million copies of his books, King is best known for his work in horror fiction, in which he demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the genre’s history. He has also written science fiction, fantasy, short-fiction, non-fiction, screenplays, teleplays and stageplays. Many of his stories have been adapted for other media, including movies, television series and comic books. King has written a number of books using the pen name Richard Bachman and one short story where he was credited as John Swithen. In 2003 he received The National Book Foundation’s Medal for Distinguished Contribution to american Letters.
Early life

Stephen King was born on September 21, 1947 to Donald Edwin and Nellie Ruth Pillsbury King. When King was two years old, his father deserted the family when going to get a pack of cigarettes, leaving his mother to raise King and his adopted older brother David by herself, sometimes under great financial strain. The family moved to West De Pere, Wisconsin, Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Stratford, Connecticut. When King was eleven, they returned to Durham, Maine where Ruth King cared for her parents until their death. She then became a caterer in a local residential facility for the mentally challenged.[2]

As a child, King apparently witnessed one of his friends being struck and killed by a train, though he has no memory of the event. His family told him that after leaving home to play with the boy, King returned, speechless and seemingly in shock. Only later did the family learn of the friend’s death. Some commentators have suggested that this event may have psychologically inspired King’s dark, disturbing creations,[3] but King himself has dismissed the idea.[4]

King’s primary inspiration for writing horror fiction was related in detail in his 1981 non-fiction “Danse Macabre” in a chapter titled “An Annoying Autobiographical Pause” . King makes a comparison of his grandfather successfully dowsing for water using the bough of an apple branch with the sudden realization of what he wanted to do for a living. While browsing through an attic with his elder brother, King uncovered a paperback version of an H.P. Lovecraft collection of short stories that had belonged to his father. The cover art—an illustration of a monster hiding within the recesses of a hell-like cavern beneath a tombstone—was, he writes,

“the moment of my life when the dowsing rod suddenly went down hard . . . as far as I was concerned, I was on my way.”

New mandatory filter will begin with 1300 and grow to a range of about 10,000, but many are questioning who gets to decide what sites should included and why. As Australia gears up for the testing phase of its new plan to have ISPs filter the Internet of "inappropriate content" and "offensive and illegal material," it's now being reported that the govt blacklist has already been compiled and will begin with some 1300 sites. "The pilot will specifically test filtering against the ACMA blacklist of prohibited content, which is mostly child pornography, as well as filtering of other unwanted content," Broadband Minister Stephen Conroy told Parliament today. "While the ACMA blacklist is currently around 1300 URLs, the pilot will test against this list - as well as filtering for a range of URLs to around 10,000 - so that the impacts on network performance of a larger blacklist can be examined." Many are rightly upset with the plan because not only is the plan mandatory, but it also means that a govt bureaucrat will be the one determining what sites ar included.

Investment firm employee shared more than he bargained for, including the names, dates, and social security numbers of some 2,000 of the firm's clients with others using the popular file-sharing program. Everybody with the even the faintest knowledge of file-sharing programs and networks knows that although sharing content is integral for the health of a given P2P community, it's always paramount that you monitor EXACTLY WHAT and HOW MUCH you are sharing. Apparently this was the first of many rules ignored by an employee of the Wagner Resource Group, a financial services firm founded in 1979, who decided to install Limewire on his work PC and share the confidential contents of his HDD with the rest of the world. He managed to expose the names, dates of birth, and Social Security numbers of some 2,000 of the firm's clients, the most notable being Supreme Court Justice Stephen G. Breyer, over a six month period! Heaven forbid if he sees another P2P or file-sharing related case come across the Supreme Court docket in the future.

Now reportedly silencing those critical of its plan to filter the Internet of illegal material. I've mentioned before how the Australian govt is moving ahead with plans to have ISPs filter porn and other internet content deemed inappropriate for children despite findings that they aren't effective and reportedly degrade connection speeds by an alarming 86%. Now comes word that the office of the Communications Minister, Stephen Conroy, is trying to silence critics of the plan after one of his advisors wrote an “intimidating” email to Mark Newton, an engineer at the ISP Internode, who criticized the plan on the Whirlpool broadband community forum by saying it would not work and could even enable child abuse. “In your capacity as a board member of the IIA (Internet Industry Association) I would like to express my serious concern that a IIA member would be sending out this sort of message,” the email from Mr Conroy’s advisor Belinda Dennett read. “I have also advised (IIA chief executive) Peter Coroneos of my disappointment in this sort of irresponsible behaviour.

aAF brings us the DVDRip of Rogue, an adventure thriller directed by Greg Mclean, who is also the director of Wolf Creek. I have heard of a lot of films with plots like these but Rogue seems like a good one. A 7.0 rating on IMDB and 100% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, which is amazing. Ripped to 1CD by aAF.

Plot: Pete is an American travel writer reporting on the booming tourist industry in the Northern Territory. While taking a river cruise he finds himself stuck with a collection of interesting characters, including Kate, the beautiful local tour guide. There is an immediate attraction between the two, but when their boat is rammed by something from below, the tour is thrown into disarray and they become stranded on a tiny mud island. As night falls and the tide starts to rise, the group slowly realise they are being stalked by a huge saltwater crocodile, beginning a terrifying struggle for survival in one of the most remote places in the world.
